Background and Due Diligence Checks, Newcastle

Background checks, before the decision is made.

Structured background and due diligence checks for decisions that carry real risk: who you employ, who you go into business with, and who you let into your home or company. Conducted under licence in Newcastle and across the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast and New England.

The service

Claims, checked against the public record.

A background or due diligence check tests what you have been told against what can be verified. It follows a defined scope and ends in a written report.

Factum Investigations is a licensed private investigation firm. We carry out background checks in Newcastle and across the Hunter for individuals, solicitors, insurers and businesses. Each check is scoped to the decision in front of you.

What you receive

  • Identity and public-record verification
  • Litigation and directorship history, within lawful bounds
  • A structured due diligence report with clear findings

Findings are set out in writing with supporting evidence. We report what can be established, and we do not present assumptions as fact.

What we take on

Decisions that are hard to reverse.

Employment

Pre-employment screening for a position of trust. Before an appointment is made, a pre-employment background check examines whether the identity and history a candidate has put forward can be verified.

Business

Vetting a prospective business partner or investor before you commit. A business due diligence check covers identity, public records, and litigation and directorship history.

Tenancy

Tenant screening beyond a standard rental check, where an owner wants the details on an application verified before a lease is signed.

Verifying claims

Verifying claims made by an individual or a company, such as who they are and the history they present, before you rely on them.

How it works

From enquiry to written report.

01

Confidential enquiry

You contact us by phone, email or the enquiry form with an outline of the decision you are facing. Nothing is discussed with a third party.

02

Consultation and scope

We assess what's lawful and achievable, then provide a clear scope and fee estimate. You're under no obligation until you formally instruct us.

03

The check

Work is carried out on your instructions, under licence, with evidence logged as we go.

04

Written report

You receive a written report and supporting evidence, prepared for your intended use.

Lawful limits

The limits that apply to every check.

Factum Investigations holds NSW Master Licence 000111255 under the Security Industry Act 1997 (NSW). Every background and due diligence check is carried out within that framework and within privacy law.

  • We only accept instructions with a lawful, legitimate purpose.
  • Checks are limited to lawful, publicly available or properly authorised sources. We do not go beyond them.
  • We investigate to establish fact, not to build a case for a predetermined outcome.
  • We tell you when something isn't lawful or achievable, rather than take the fee anyway.
We do not assist with checks intended to harass, intimidate or harm.

Common questions

Background checks, answered plainly.

Are your background checks compliant with privacy law?
Yes. Checks are conducted using lawful, publicly available or properly authorised sources, consistent with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and NSW privacy legislation. See our Privacy Notice for more detail.
What do you need from me to start a check?
Enough detail for us to assess whether the check is lawful and achievable: who or what is involved, what you're trying to establish, and any relevant timeframes or locations. We'll ask follow-up questions during the consultation.
How long does a due diligence check take?
Timeframes vary with the scope of the check. We'll give you a realistic estimate at the consultation stage.
How much does a background check cost?
It depends on scope. We provide a clear fee estimate after the initial confidential consultation. There's no fixed public rate because every matter is different.
